And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
(Exodus 3:14 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
I AM – I Exist
The Almighty GOD of The Bible is The Pre-eminent Being Who Exists. He was not created. He has no beginning and no end. HE IS Eternal.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
(Genesis 1:1 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
GOD existed in the beginning. GOD is responsible for the creation of time (beginning), space (heaven), and matter (earth); thus, HE IS outside time, space, and matter. Time, space, and matter were created by GOD; created by I AM.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
(John 1:1-2 KJV)
In the beginning existed The WORD, and The WORD existed with GOD (I AM), and The WORD existed as GOD (I AM).
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
(John 1:14 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
The WORD that existed with GOD (I AM), and existed AS GOD (I AM) was made flesh and dwelt among human beings as a flesh and blood human being, and He had the same glory as The Father (GOD).
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
(John 8:58 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
Jesus said unto them, “… I AM”
They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
(John 18:5-8 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
In this passage (John 18:5-6), thrice the KJV records “I am he”, and we should take note that “he” is in italics. In the KJV (King James Version) “he” being in italics indicates there is no word translated as “he”, but was added by the translators in the hopes of adding clarity (according to their understanding).
Instead, these instances should have been translated: Jesus saith unto them, I AM … he had said unto them, I AM … Jesus answered, I have told you that I AM…
This is consistent with what Jesus said in John 8:58.
The first time Jesus spoke WHO HE IS with at least a slight measure of Authority or forcefulness, as we see, there was so much power in that little bit of Authority Jesus spoke with that when HE said “I AM”, the entire cohort of soldiers and others who came out to take Him captive were knocked to the ground.
The above passages identify two things of note:
1) GOD IS … I AM
2) There are two “I AM’s” identified in Scripture.
The Hebrew Scriptures have always pointed to Three Heavenly Powers. Even Jesus pointed this out when quoting King David.
For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
(Mark 12:36 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
(Luke 20:42 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
(Acts 2:34 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
(Psalms 110:1 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
“YHWH said unto Adon …”
Adon (King David’s Lord) is being addressed by YHWH (The LORD).
These Scripture passages, like so many others, point to the plurality of GOD. Referred to in the New Testament as “Godhead”, and in the Old Testament as “ ‘Elohiym”.
Also note that Jesus (in Mark 12:36) is recorded as saying “by the Holy Ghost”.
In addition to this we have:
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
(Genesis 1:2 KJV, Bold Emphasis Added)
The Spirit Of GOD – Ruach ‘Elohiym.
Thus, what is referred to in modern times as “The Trinity”. The Father, The WORD (Son), and The Holy Ghost (Spirit Of GOD).
